PURPOSE:To increase discharge capacity and prevent the voltage delay phenomenon at initial discharge by compounding at a specific weight ratio both of CuO, of which one is heat treated at lower than a specific temperature and the other is done at higher than the specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode comprising alkali metal or alkali earth metal as an negative electrode active substance, a positive electrode comprising CuO as an positive electrode active substance and a nonaqueous electrolyte constitutes a battery. The CuO is a mixture of unheat-treated CuO and/or heat- treated CuO at 600 deg.C or less (CuO(a)) and heat-treated CuO at 650-1000 deg.C (CuO(b)). The mixed ratio of CuO(a)/CuO(b) is 25-75 by weight. By the arrangement, a battery with a small voltage delay phenomenon at initial discharge, a flat discharge voltage, and a high capacity of long discharge time is obtained. |
