PURPOSE:To prevent the choking of catalyst opening parts effectively by installing protecting means of specific shapes and materials to the front face on the gas inflow port side of honeycomb catalysts in treatment of dusty waste gases by the honeycomb catalysts. CONSTITUTION:A honeycomb catalyst 1 forms gas passages of polygons, circular shapes or the like of its walls 3 when viewed from the gas flow direction. The respective cross sections of the protecting means 2 are resemblant shapes in correspondence to the shapes of the honeycomb catalyst, and are so installed that the central axes of the walls 4 of the means 2 and those of the walls 3 of the honeycomb catalyst 1 are superposed. The thickness (b) of the walls 3 of the honeycomb catalyst is formed less thicker than the thickness (a) in the leading end parts of the walls 4 of the means 2 and the thickness (c) of the walls on the side in contact with the catalyst is formed not thin. The spacing (d) between the catalyst 1 and the means 2 is set at <=10mm. and the layer height (f) of the protecting means is preferably within a 10-300mm. range. |
