PURPOSE:To prepare a low-toxic carcinostatic agent for oral administration, having high carcinostatic effect, by using, as an active component, a powdery substance obtained by treating chlorella with an organic solvent, extracting with water, removing the component having a molecular weight of <=10,000 from the extract solution, and freeze-drying the solution. CONSTITUTION:Chlorella is used as a raw material and is treated with hexane, ether, chloroform, methanol, ethanol, acetone, or a mixture of two or more of the above solvents. The treated chlorella is extracted with water, and the component having a molecular weight of about <=10,000 is removed from the extract by dialysis of gel-filtration. The resultant aqueous solution is freeze-dried to obtain the objective powdery substance. The substance having a molecular weight of 40,000-50,000 is especially suitable. The powdery substance has pale yellowish brown color, is soluble in water and contains about 50% of protein, about 25% of carbohydrate and about 25% of a nucleic acid-family substance. Dose: 1-1,000mg/kg daily by oral administration. The chlorella to be used as a raw material is pref. those obtained by the aseptic tank cultivation. |
