PURPOSE:To facilitate the detection of leaking liquid, by adding an offensive smelling substance for the detection of leaking liquid and then by hermetically sealing the battery. CONSTITUTION:As for a crimp-sealed type battery, some substance, for example, selected from esters and amines is added in as a detective offensive smelling substance and sealed. As to esters, ethyl acetate, iso-amyl acetate, iso-amyl butyrate; as to amines, aniline, toluidine, trimethylamine, or the like are used for this purpose. These substances react with potassium hydroxide-electrolyte without deteriorating the performance of the battery and even a small amount of them emit the offensive smell. Also, in case of detection by dogs, 0.1-0.5wt% is added into the electrolyte, while in the case of detection by a man's nose, 1-10wt% added. The offensive smelling substance is added and mixed with the electrolyte to make a mixture, which is added into the battery similarly like an ordinary electrolyte. Thereby, the detection process of leaking liquid can be more simplified and facilitated, as compared with the charging of helium or the like. |
