The dynamometer according to the invention, for testing internal combustion engines, has an input clutch (112) which can be rotated about an axis (126). The dynamometer is connected by this axis to the engine to be investigated. A hydraulic pump (109) is driven by the input clutch and is connected to a distributor (114), which is connected via a load cell (132) to the dynamometer frame (101). A fixed distributor (125) is fixed on a frame (101) and is connected via pipes (122, 123, 124) to the pump distributor (114). At the axis (126) of the input clutch, the pipes are connected in articulated fashion to the pump distributor (114), the said clutch axis intersecting the respective pipe axes. The forces resulting from the pressure of the fluid in the pipes and in the pump distributor thus act via the axis (126) of the input clutch and do not exert any torque about this axis. Accordingly, the forces resulting from the pressure of the fluid do not impair the measurements by the load cell (132) of the loads applied by the engine to be investigated, with the result that the accuracy of the dynamometer is considerably improved. <IMAGE>
