NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic TM-531B shown by the formula and its salt. Elemental analysis: theoretical value (%) calculated as a molecular formula of C46 H75O14Na, C 63.16, H 8.58, Na 2.63. Molecular weight: 874. Melting point: 252.1- 253.3 deg.C. Specific rotatory power: [alpha]D<26>=+37.8 deg. (C=0.5 methanol). Solubility: insoluble in water, soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, etc. Color reaction: positive in iodine reaction, potassium permanganate reaction, and vanillin-sufuric acid reaction. USE:An antibacterial agent. Exhibiting improved inhibiting actions on the propagation of Gram-positive bacteria. PROCESS:TM-531 strain (FERM-P 4737) belonging to the genus ''Streptomyces'' is cultivated under aerobic conditions in liquid medium, aerated submerged culture, etc. in a pH about 7 at 25-40 deg.C. The culture is centrifuged, extracted with an organic solvent, and purified to give an antibiotic shown by the formula. |
