The printing machine has a pattern support and a mechanism for pressing free-flowing ink or dye through the support. On one side of the support (4) there is a sealed chamber, and the support itself is in turn supported by an ink-permeable body, comprising plastics grilles (5,6,7) and a perforated plate (8), in the chamber over the entire printing area. A metering pump generates a predetermined hydrostatic pressure in the ink contained in the chamber. Alternatively, this pressure can be supplied from a pressure vessel via a control valve.
