<p>The nut is in three parts;- an outer section with a taper bore containing a groove or internal serrations, and a split core with an internal thread and tapering outer face with spline or serrations. The outer section has an edge bent over, to hold the halves of the core in place. The split core allows the thread to fit more closely round that of the bolt, pipe union etc. this giving improved protection against corrosion due to weather or chemical action and less tendency to work loose.</p> |
