PURPOSE:To obtain a raw material for fluoride optical fibers of high purity efficiently, by gasifying and subliming various metallic compound under heating, and reacting the resultant gases with hydrogen fluoride gas in the vapor phase in the gaseous atmosphere of a cleaned carrier gas. CONSTITUTION:Metallic compounds, e.g. halides, carboxylate, alkyl compounds of one or more metals selected from alkali (earth) metals, lanthanoid elements, Zr, Bi, Al and lead, are filled into a raw material vessel, and evaporated or sublimed under heating. The gases of the metallic compounds are then introduced into a reactor, e.g. a fluororesin, by bubbling a carrier gas cleaned by the filtration into the metallic compounds, and hydrogen fluoride gas generated from ammonium fluoride or its hydrofluoride, is simultaneously introduced into the reator and reacted with the gases in the vapor phase in the atmosphere of the cleaned carrier gas to give the aimed raw material for fluoride optical fibers of high purity. |
