The engine has a vertical wheel with a large number of radial cylinders (4). Each cylinder contains a free piston (5,6). A working fluid is admitted from the centre of the wheel into the cylinders on one side of a vertical diameter of the wheel and released from the cylinders on the other side. It forces the pistons (5) on one side radially out, while those (6) on the other side are drawn in. This results in an unbalanced moment which causes the wheel to revolve. The working fluid can be subjected to differences of temperature, pressure, or electric potential, which are then converted weight differences.
|
