<p>PURPOSE:To make a rolling mill with a characteristic widely varying from a point symmetry to a point asymmetry controllable, by individually adjusting the bending force to be applied to the left and right sides of a work roll on the basis of a transverse thickness distribution of a strip on the feed-in side of the rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:Between an axially shiftable upper work roll 2 and an upper backup roll 4, an intermediate roll 6 shiftable contrary to the roll 2 is installed. Since this rolling mill itself has a point asymmetrical characteristic, the transverse thickness distribution becomes transversely asymmetrical. However, since the bending forces FWU, FWL, FDU, FDL respectively applied to the driving side and the working side of the work roll 2 are independently controllable, the axial deflection of the roll 2 can be made transversely symmetrical, by visually confirming the shape of a rolled material, for example, and by individually adjusting each bending force by an operator. As a result, the thickness distribution on the run-out side is controlled to a transverse symmetry.</p> |
