A loose-leaf binder for filing two sets of loose leaves, one set of which is to be protected against inspection comprises a pair of covers 1 and 2, Fig. 1, which are joined by a spine (3 Fig. 2), the outer edge of cover 1 being provided with an inwardly foldable extension 1a, the outer edge portion of which is provided in turn with holes 1a<1> for co-operation with rings 14 when the cover 1 and the extension 1a are folded inwardly. The cover 1 and extension 1a may be provided with further inwardly foldable extensions 1b to 1e, whereby the extensions 1c, 1e are provided with ring-engaging holes 1c<1>, 1e<1>. The rings 14 are formed by an annular segment 14a, having a gap 14b extending over an arc of 20 to 40 degrees and the segments are connected by webs to hubs 14c, Fig. 3, which are mounted on square shanks of shaft portions 13a and 13b, the shanks being received in corresponding recesses of adjacent shaft portions, whereby shaft portions 13a to 13c form a hollow shaft 13 which is bolted together by a pin 16 and a locking member 15 jointly forming a spindle whose ends are journalled in bearing 10, 11 of a holder 5. The holder 5 which has depending lugs 6 provided with slot 7 which are attached over lugs (4a, Fig. 2) fast with a support 4 attached to the spine (3) is also provided with recesses which accommodate the rings 14 whose gap is pivotable by rotation of the shaft, following insertion of a key (23, Fig. 4) into the locking member 15, between an upper binder ring open position and a lower binder ring closed position. In the closed position of the binder rings the tumblers 15b of the barrel lock are engaged in corresponding recesses of the bearing 10. Tampering with loose-leaves disposed in the pocket formed by the folded-over extensions which co-operate with rings 14 is thereby prevented. |
