Quick release pipe connector - has automatic valves to prevent loss of pipe contents in double taper flange clamp

The pipe coupling consists of a segmented double taper flange clamp (3) holding together the flanges (2) of a pipeline (11) which incorporates an auxiliary pipe (11a). The flange clamp is operated by an hydraulic cylinder through a quick release, (7). When an emergency disconnection takes place the automatically operated valves (14) in the pipeline (12) are closed. The valves (15) in the auxiliary pipeline are spring loaded in a back-to-back arrangement. As the clamp ring (3) is released and the flanges (2) separate the valves (15) close under the action of the springs (18).
