The chair comprises a frame with a seat and reclining backrest (3) wherein rearwardly extending support feet (6) connected to the backrest (3) by movable links (5) are mounted in or on the frame (10) so that when the backrest reclines the support feet (6) move out backwards altering the centre of gravity to prevent the chair from tipping up. The support feet form one unit with the frame so that they move with the backrest ensuring they do not protrude when the backrest is upright which could cause people to trip up.
