In a position-sensing device, a driving pulse is applied to a driving coil so as to generate a magnetic field, the magnetic field is applied to a magnetostrictive delay line so as to generate a magnetostrictive wave on the magnetostrictive delay line, the magnetostrictive wave is sensed by a first sensing coil equipped adjacent to the magnetostrictive delay line, and additionally a second sensing coil is fixedly disposed a predetermined distance from the driving coil, thereby the position of the first sensing coil is calculated on the basis of the times when the magnetostrictive vibration arrives at the first sensing coil and the second sensing coil, and the predetermined distance. The position-sensing device gives a shorter measuring time and a wider measuring range as compared with a conventional position-sensing device. In the case of calculating the average value of several measurements, it is possible to obtain a higher accuracy in averaging within the same interval. |
