Device for adjusting the stroke position on gear-grinding machines, in which a grinding-spindle bearing is movably arranged on an adjusting slide and the latter is movably arranged on a plunger performing the rapid stroke movement. The aim is to increase the work productivity in gear grinding, accompanied by an improvement in the attainable quality of the tooth system at increased stroke rates. Interference resulting from the stroke movement is to be avoided to the greatest possible extent. Component displacements as a result of the accelerations during the stroke movement are to take place in the stroke direction and displacements transversely to the stroke direction are to be avoided. This is achieved by a cross member being arranged on the plunger, at the end of which cross member a screw drive free from backlash is connected to the system of adjusting slide and grinding-spindle bearing in its gravitational line. A hydraulic stroke device free from backlash can also be arranged at the end of the cross member, and the system of adjusting slide and grinding-spindle bearing is to be longitudinally adjustable free from backlash at the plunger. The gravitational lines of grinding-spindle bearing and adjusting slide are to be identical, and, at the junctions between grinding-spindle bearing and adjusting slide, the stiffness values in the stroke direction are to be proportional to the forces to be transmitted.
