1,261,258. Liquefied gas storage tanks. BRIDGESTONE LIQUEFIED GAS CO. Ltd. 14 Nov., 1969 [15 Nov., 1968], No. 55829/69. Heading F4P. In a liquefied gas storage tank comprising an outer shell, an insulating layer and a suspended, corrugated, inner membrane tank, recesses 13 are formed in the insulating layer to relieve stresses in the inner tank caused on charging the liquefied gas. The side wall of the inner tank is joined to the bottom wall 6 by a curved portion 5 over which the corrugations become gradually less pronounced and eventually disappear towards the tank bottom and the recesses 13 are formed adjacent the outermost crests of the corrugations in this region. As the tank is filled the corrugations are flattened out and the outer crests over the curved portion are forced into the recesses thus relieving any stress. |
