In a sodium sulphur cell having a solid electrolyte membrane 10 separating sodium from a cathodic reactant comprising sulphur and sodium polysulphides, a cathode current collector 14 is provided which, where exposed to the cathodic reactant, is formed of a nickel-chromium alloy 16 which may be a binary alloy or may contain further metals. This alloy having a protective oxide film 17 predominantly of nickel oxide. The nickel-chromium alloy may be a coating on a substrate 15 of higher electrical conductivity, such as aluminium. <IMAGE> |
