<p>A process for extracting non-surface active material from a water/sulphated or sulphonated organic matter-non-surface active material feedstock comprising extracting the feedstock with, as sole solvent, a C4 to C10 ketone, at a temperature of below 60.degree.C, or a C1 to C6 alkyl acetate to form a ketone or acetate/non-surface active material extract and a ketone or acetate/water/sulphated or sulphonated organic matter raffinate and optionally separating the ketone or acetate from the raffinate. This process provides a method of separating such a feedstock by use of a single solvent in contrast to the known procedures which require at least two solvents.</p> |
