1342317 Making combustible gas SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 19 April 1971 [20 Feb 1970] 22105/71 Heading C5E In an apparatus comprising a reactor 1 for making a combustible gas by the partial combustion of a hydrocarbon 4 with oxygen 3, optionally with steam, at superatmospheric pressure, and a waste heat boiler 6 having one or more helical tubes through which product gas is passed, means are provided for opening a valve 20 on a steam-discharge line 29 when excess pressure of steam in the boiler 6 over the pressure of product gas, both before and after cooling at 11, exceeds a predetermined value. The valve 20 is operated by a device 23 which receives signals from points 24, 25, 27 on the oxygen-supply line 3, gas outlet line 17, and steam outlet line 7, the device 23 operating when the pressure difference between 24, 27, or between 25, 27, exceeds a predetermined value. A valve 18 on a steam line 28 is set for a pressure.in the range 50 to 150 atmos. The device 23 may additionally act to close valves on the lines 3, 4, and the print 24 may be located in the reactor 1 or at the gas outlet thereof. |
