Isobutylene is produced by dehydrating tertiary butyl alcohol at 68-100‹ C. in the presence of a cation exchange resin, water formed during the reaction being removed as an azeotrope with an inert organic liquid, e.g. benzene. Suitable rosins are of the sulphonated coal, sulphonated divinylbenzene-stvrene or sulphonic acid macro-reticular type. |
