1307122 SO 2 removal using zirconia MAGNESIUM ELEKTRON Ltd 29 June 1971 [6 July 1970] 32585/70 Heading C1A Sulphur oxides are removed from a gas stream e.g. flue gas by contacting the gas with an absorbent comprising zirconia which is prepared by heating zircon and NaOH, cooling and washing the reaction mixture with water and finally heating the zirconia to at least 450‹ C. The absorbent is effectively used in granular or pellet form and at temperatures of, e.g. 130‹ to 150‹ C. and 300‹ to 350‹ C. The zirconia may be regenerated by heating to above 450‹ C., preferably in the presence of a purging gas, e.g. nitrogen, air, hydrogen; water gas or producer gas. |
