1,142,523. Improving physical properties. SHERRITT GORDON MINES Ltd. 14 March, 1966 [19 March, 1965], No. 11147/66. Heading B3V. [Also in Division C7] An oxide dispersion strengthened metal or alloy containing a matrix of at least one of Fe, Ni, Co, Cu, Be, Mg, Al, Mn, Cr, Mo, W, Nb, Ta, Ti, V, U, Zr, Pt, Pd, Au, Pb and a refractory oxide of at least one of the oxides of Y, Th, Mg, Ca, Si, Zr, U, La, Be, Al, Hf, Ce, Ti is cold worked and annealed in cycles the cold working between anneals being such as to effect an area reduction of less than 20%. The cold working may be by rolling, swaging, forging, drawing or extrusion. The dispersion strengthened alloy contains up to 30% by volume of the refractory oxide which has a size of less than 100 millimicrons. The examples relate to sintered alloys of Ni-ThO 2 , the Ni being deposited on the ThO 2 bya process according to Specification 1,137,932, the annealing sintering being carried out by hot rolling at 1205‹ C. in H 2 . Annealing at 1205‹ C., cold rolling to 10% reduction and further annealing in H 2 at 1205‹ C. was then carried out. |
