PURPOSE:To assure the high reliability of sealing by providing a secured layer formed of low m.p. metal and a metallic block having a through-hole engaging to the secured layer to the part removed of the film of a prescribed part of an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:First, the covering of the predetermined part of an optical fiber 9 is removed. Metallic coating of tantalum or copper is applied on the surface thereof by a method such as vapor deposition or sputtering, and a die having a tapered part of good release characteristics is mounted to near the circumference of said part. Molten low m.p. metal is filled in this mold and after this metal has solidified, the mold is removed, whereby a secured layer 10 is formed. This optical fiber 9 with the secured layer is then inserted into the hole of a metallic block 11 and a spring 14 and a press plate 13 are inserted onto the fiber 9. The plate 13 is then fixed to the block 11 by screws 12, and the layer 10 is pressed to the block 11 by the spring 14, whereby the layer 10 is stuck and sealed by pressure to the block 11. |
