Process for the preparation of sulphinylazetidinone compounds

Sulphinylazetidinone compounds of the formula <IMAGE> in which the substituents are defined in Claim 1, are prepared. The compound of the formula IIA is prepared by reacting a corresponding halosulphinylazetidinone with a corresponding nitrogen compound. This nitrogen compound can be in the form of an alkali metal compound. The resulting compounds can be used as starting materials for the preparation of intermediates which are used for preparing antibiotics.
