The coagulants having a tendency to form lumps are atomised by compressed air and introduced into a solution chamber. There they are set into tangential motion and mixed with water which is likewise sprayed in in a tangential direction, then stirred from time to time and finally filtered. The apparatus serving for performing the method is provided with a solution apparatus which is composed of a metering apparatus (2), a conical powder atomiser (3) and a water injection-solution chamber (4) furnished with tangential boreholes. Coagulants which have a tendency to form lumps and which are used in water treatment plants can be dissolved without problem by this apparatus. <IMAGE>
