1,181,806. Novel rhodium (I) complexes as oxo catalysts. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 11 Oct., 1967 [17 Oct., 1966], No. 46293/66. Heading C2C. Novel catalysts which are Rhodium (I) square planar complexes containing at least one carboxylate ligand are used in the oxo process for the preparation of aldehydes and alcohols. The carboxylate ligands are preferably derived from aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acids or substituted derivatives thereof. The other ligands are preferably at least one carbonyl group (CO) and at least one ligand which complexes through an element of Group VB or VIB of the Periodic Table by donating a pair of electrons, e.g. P, N, As, Sb and such as triorgano phosphines, arsines or stilbines, pyridines or amines such as aniline or ethylene diamine. The oxo process may be carried out in a solvent, possibly an alcohol whence acetals are produced. |
