A device for treating liquid metal in steel melting vessels with gases or powders consists of a support plate in which a supply tube for the gas or powder, e.g. graphite in a stream of compressed air, is held. The distal end of this tube is spread out fan-like into several outlet branches at an angle to each other and inclined downwards. All outlets lie in the same plane. Another tube in the support plate, concentric or separate, introduces a blast of gas along the tube outside. This keeps the tube clear of spattering metal or slag. Applied to open-hearth or arc furnaces, it raises the productivity, improves the effectiveness of the powder additive, and reduces the price of the molten steel.
|
