Device for reversing superfluous flash from the top of a relatively large bodied moulded container comprises a turntable with a ramp for bracing the body while the mouth of the container passes between a pair of arcuate guides, where the flash is intercepted by knives which intersect the guide passage. The body is supported radially by a rigid shroud. The knives may be mounted between twin pairs of arcuate guides. The knive profiles may be optimised for the materials to be cut, e.g. polyethylene flash may best be cut by oblique blades having a leading point. The knives may be static or mobile. The mouldings may be mounted in and removed from the supporting shrouds by suitable pneumatic aids. Esp. used for deflashing blow moulded containers. Support for the container body allows the flash to be removed after less cooling, i.e. sooner than is possible using systems where the body is pendant from the neck while passing through a deflashing unit. Suggests that cooling prior to deflashing may be reduced from approx. 30 s. to 4-5 s.
|
