The parent patent described controlled use of changes of temp. and of vibration to assist the melting and chilling of crystalline, semi-crystalline or amorphous materials, esp. for blending dissimilar viscous materials such as polystyrene + polypropylene or polycarbonate or polybutadiene. This addition claims application of programmed variations of vibration, or an alternative physical parameter such as pressure or an e.m. field, as a function of time during the cooling of a mixt. of high mol. wt. materials from a temp. above their conventional critical temp., Tc, for homogeneity. Used esp. for prep. of bulk or masterbatch quantities of mixed polymers, to modify the kinetics of the diffusion and mixing process on a molecular scale by adjusting the frequency and intensity or amplitude and rate of change of vibration or pressure applied to the mixt. during cooling through Tc and thus control the homogeneity of the second (disperse) phase.
