The monophase asynchronous electric motor includes a rotor mounted between the concave pole pieces of a magnetic circuit. A set of windings formed on the magnetic core provides an alternating magnetic field when connected to the mains supply. Two additional sets of windings are formed adjacent to the two pole pieces. Each set is wound through points on diametrically opposite sides of the rotor, but the two sets are offset by 90 degs. w.r.t. each other. A double pole switch connects these sets of windings to the supply, the switch selecting one of the two sets. According to which set is chosen, the motor may rotate in either the clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. A magnetically released spring biased brake block may also act on the rotor when the motor is not to be driven.
|
