In a jet-weaving machine with a nozzle (8), a guide channel (7), formed from guide members (4), for the weft thread in the shed, a thread clamp (15) and a monitoring member for the weft thread, the monitoring member is arranged in the region of the guide channel (7) and is designed to transmit a signal representing a specific inserted thread length. The thread clamp (15) is controlled by this signal. This guarantees that the thread clamp (15) is closed whenever exactly the thread length required has been inserted, and the metering and storage unit feeding the weft thread (S) to the nozzle (8) can be omitted and, instead of it, a commercially available winding appliance (10) can be used. <IMAGE>
