Luggage rack for vehicles - incorporates securing flexible straps which retract into internal cavity when not in use

The luggage rack esp. for the roof of a vehicle comprises a rectilinear channel (1) which is secured to the vehicle by two attachments pref. placed at the ends of the channel. The rack incorporates e.g. straps (4) which are longitudinally flexible for removably securing luggage to the rack. The rack pref. contains e.g. elastic bands (5) which automatically retract the straps when not in use into a cavity (6) through an aperture (7). One end (12) of the straps is pref. attached to a movable part (13) which is connected to the elastic bands and remains permanently within the cavity.
