The invention relates to a device for loading rail vehicles which are combined to form a train. The invention has the object of avoiding the disadvantages of previously used devices, which is achieved in that the traction vehicle which is assigned to the train in addition to the locomotive is a traction vehicle which is located on the front side of the site and is smaller and slower with respect to the locomotive. Manoeuvring with such a traction vehicle takes place without direct support on the rock or the conveyor. Therefore, in comparison with winches attached to the rock or chain transporters, the laborious resetting which impedes operation of the said winches and transporters is dispensed with. Furthermore, the traction vehicle has a working speed which is matched to the size of the load and as a result of its lower height does not impede subsequent clearing of tubbings and track material even in very small galleries.
