An artificial, implantable pacemaker is described which is provided with a device which generates an unpleasant symptomatic warning for the recipient in the event of failure. This device is mounted on the pacemaker circuit and comprises an electronic circuit which is designed in such a way that the drop in the battery voltage is determined by the electronic circuit, and electronic pulses are applied to the tissue, in order to output an unpleasant symptomatic warning to the recipient when the battery voltage drops to a level value which renders it necessary to have to exchange the pacemaker. <IMAGE>
