<p>A cylindrical filter element comprising a body of open-cell plastic foam on a perforated, rigid sleeve. Circular lips on the outside of the sleeve, one near each end, engage corresp. circular slots inside each end of the body, which extends slightly beyond the sleeve at both ends; the angle of the lips to the body axis is such that axial compression of the body tends to push the lips further into the slots. The elimination of all fastenings and auxiliary seals provides a cheap element suitable for mass-prodn. and rapid replacement. The foam plastic overhang beyond the lips provides compressible end seals when the element is clamped down by the filter lid.</p> |
