The recording studio control panel is used to adjust the sound levels and has a variable gain and associated frequency response. It uses a frequency selective network (30, 32) with a frequency - amplitude characteristic having at least one maximum within the audio frequency range corresponding to the pass band of a band-pass filter. A frequency modifying network (36, 38) permits the frequency of the maximum to be modified as a function of the gain, such that the frequency is increased as the gain increases. Pref. the frequency response curve has at least two maxima.
