A method for purifying gases contg. both gaseous and aerosol impurities consists of feeding pulverulent adsorbent into the crude gas stream, where it is spread over the surface of a moving band filter; the particles, combined with any aerosols present, constitute a uniformly distributed layer over the band filter and remain there during the adsorption of the gaseous impurities; at the end of the filter path, the particles are removed from the band. In a pref. appts. a vertical endless filter belt receives the crude gas flow and powder at the top, discharges the purified gas from its centre and has the spent pwoder blown from it by an internal gas jet at the bottom of its travel.
