PURPOSE:A crystalline zirconium phosphate that is ion-exchanged with tetra-alkyl ammonium ion is used as a catalyst and methanol or dimethyl ether is brought into contact with the catalyst to produce hydrocarbons mainly consisting of lower olefins. CONSTITUTION:Crystalline zirconium phosphate is subjected to ion-exchange treatment with a tetra-alkylammonium ion of the formula (R is alkyl; x is 0.1- 1.95, preferably 0.5-1.5) and the product is used as a catalyst to effect the catalytic reaction of methanol or dimethyl ether to produce hydrocarbons mainly containing lower olefins rather than the gasoline fraction. Since hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide are scarcely formed, each fraction of hydrocarbons is readily separated. The reaction pressure is 1-100, preferably 1-50 atmospheric one and the temperature is 300-500 deg.C, preferably 350-450 deg.C. |
