PURPOSE:To prepare the titled formed article having excellent formability and high gas permeability, and useful as an adsorbent for air cleaner, for recovery of organic solvent, etc., by kneading a mixture of powdery active carbon and methyl cellulose with water, forming the mixture to a desired form, and drying the product. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. of powdery active carbon is mixed with 3-85pts.wt. of methyl cellulose and kneaded thoroughly with water, and the product is formed to a desired shape and dried. The use of methyl cellulose as a binder enables the use of water as the solvent, which has advantage from the viewpoint of formability. Furthermore, the active carbon particles coated with methyl cellulose can transmit the gas. The formed active carbon thus obtained can be advantageously used as an adsorbent for an industrial, domestic, or automobile air-cleaner, or for the removal organic solvents. |
