An inserter is provided for placing an insert into newspaper jackets as the jackets are fed at printing press speed. The inserts (10) are fed from a hopper (H) by a perforated endless continuously moving belt (40) by means of selectively activating vacuum plenums (62), located on the side of the belt opposite the inserts in the hopper, to pull the leading edge of the closed insert onto the belt when the insert is needed, and selectively activating air pressure plenum 60 to lift the said leading edge off belt so that insert cannot be moved by belt. Vacuum plenum 50 is also selectively activated to hold the trailing edge of the closest insert so that insert cannot be fed by belt. <IMAGE> |
