PURPOSE:To make a roll shiftable leaving a roll chock fixed, by screw fitting a cylindrical bearing box provided with a gear to be engaged with a driving worm installed at an end of a drum shell, to an extended drum shell set in the outside of a roll chock. CONSTITUTION:A female screw is cut in the inner surface of an extended drum shell 34 attached to a roll chock 11c of a backup roll 11; a cylindrical bearing box 33 is screw fitted into this female screw of the drum shell 34. A boss of a worm gear 40, relatively slidable on the outer surface of the bearing box 33 through a slide key 39, is born by a gear box 41 attached to the outer end of the extended drum shell 34; a worm shaft 21e fixed in one body to a worm 42 engageable with the worm gear 40 is also born by the gear box 41. A motor is driven to rotate the bearing box 33 through the engagement between the worm 42 and the worm gear 41; hereby, a backup roll 11 is shifted through a screw fitting 35. By the present constitution, the bearing load is always balanced between the left and right sides of the roll 11. |
