[Also in Division B8] Apparatus for sealing the contacting segments of continuously moving thermoplastic film cartridges 3 comprises a stationary ultrasonic sealing member 4, means 25 for conveying each cartridge 3 towards the member 4, and a rotatable anvil 5 including portions 26, 27 to engage portions of the cartridge 3 and to conduct the latter into contact with the surface of the member 4. Each cartridge 3 is conveyed along a plate 2 by a pusher rod 25 extending between and mounted on conveyer chains 22 positioned one on each side of the member 4. The member 4 is resiliently mounted and is of an inverted V-shaped configuration. The legs of the V straddle a pressure bar 14 and their extremities provide sealing contact surfaces. The bar 14 may be moved vertically relative to its supporting rods 15 by adjustment of opposed set screws 17, 18. The hard-surface anvil 5 comprises a central spool 8 situated between flanged discs (9), Fig. 2 (not shown), and is provided with recesses 26, 27 to successively engage leading and trailing enlarged portions on each cartridge 3 comprising superimposed portions 23, 24.</p> |
