[Also in Division C7] A novel selenium-containing diketone having the Formula (I) is prepared by reacting selenium dioxide and acetyl acetone at elevated temperature, e.g. 70‹ C., the reaction mass solidifies on cooling to give the required compound, which may be purified by recrystallization from benzene. This selenium compound is used as a brightening additive to copper plating baths (see Division C7). |
