1364558 Basic lead carboxylates TENNECO CHEMICALS Inc 14 Oct 1971 [2 Nov 1970] 47879/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C4] Basic lead salts of saturated, branched-chain, acyclic, C 7 -C 18 monocarboxylic acids having at least 6C atoms in the longest straight chain and no substituent in the 2-position are produced by reaction in a solvent of litharge with the appropriate acid. Salts having a degree of basicity of 1À0 or less can be obtained by the process of Specification 891,858. In Example 1 herein a slurry of litharge in mineral spirits is mixed with 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid and a commercial mixture of saturated trialkylacetic acids of 9, 10 and 11 carbon atoms, heated to 230‹ F. for “ hr. and filtered. In Example 6 the solvent is mineral spirits and 2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)- ethanol, and the commercial acid is replaced by 2-ethylhexoic acid. In Example 7 the trimethylhexanoic acid is replaced by a C 8 -Oxo acid which is predominantly 3,4-dimethyl-, 3,5-dimethyl-, and 4,5-dimethyl-hexanoic acids. Example 9 uses 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid alone. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,002,397. |
