Detachable coupling for microwave generator and cooking cavity - uses insulating sleeve held in place by threaded metal sleeve to enclose coupling antenna between generator and cooking cavity

The connection between a microwave generator and the cooking cavity of a microwave oven is through a coupling antenna which passes through a sleeve of a material which is an insulator at microwave frequencies, and is held in place by a threaded metal sleeve coupling which prevents microwave leakage. The walls of the waveguide (3) and the cavity have circular holes (7), and the wave guide hole has an annular ring (8) welded round the edges so the ring projects into the space between waveguide and cavity walls. A long sleeve of insulating material (polytetrafluoroethylene) is fitted inside the annular ring, and the coupling antenna is fitted into an axial hole in the sleeve (9). A threaded metal sleeve fits over the insulating sleeve and is screwed to the outside of the annular ring to trap a ridge on the insulating sleeve. A metal washer fits between the edge of the threaded sleeve and the cooking cavity wall to provide a closed metal seal to prevent leakage of microwaves.
