A fusible resin for use as a permanent adhesive is prepd. as a continuously cast molten coating supported by siliconised paper which is cut into smaller pieces, for storage, after the coating has been solidified by chilling. In an integrated production process, resin is melted in a suitable kettle and then pumped to a nozzle discharging to paper coming from a continuous roll. The coating is chilled by e.g. clean air jets beneath a dust hood and opt. by cold sprays on the underside of a (metallic) conveyor belt supporting the paper. The coated paper is then chopped into convenient size strips or squares. Used to prepare blocks of adhesive, either by stacking coated papers or by peeling coherent coatings off the paper prior to stacking. Simpler to handle and quicker to cool than large cast blocks of resin: also material in the middle of a stock block has had the same thermal history as that at the surface, unlike the core of a large cast block which has cooled relatively slowly. Suitable for prep. adhesives for use in mfg. envelopes, tampons, wall coverings, etc. No specific resins quoted.
|
