1353173 Shirt collars S D BLUE 27 May 1971 [10 Dec 1970] 17412/71 Heading A3V A shirt 26 has an attached collar 24 comprising a neckband 20 and a cape 22 each including an outer facing and an inner facing with an interposed interlining, the ends of the neckband being shaped such that when they are overlapped their edges 18 form a V-shaped opening, a button hole 44 at one end of the neckband immediately adjacent the junction of the neckband with the shirt body, a button at the other end of the neckband, supplementary stiffening members 30, 32 at the ends of the neckband, supplementary stiffening elements 40 at the ends of the cape, and further supplementary cape stiffening elements 50 integral with the elements 40, the upper edges 50A of the elements 50 serving to displace the fold line between the neckband and cape at the ends of the collar upwardly from the position of the fold line around the remainder of the collar, and the members 30, 32 serving to restrain the lower edges of the elements 50 from pressing inwardly on a wearer's neck when the cape is turned down over the neckband. The supplementary stiffening elements and members may be made of woven or non- woven fabric which has been wholly or 'partially coated with a thermoplastic adhesive, e.g. polyethylene, for securing it in the collar. There is a cut-out 32A in the stiffening member 32 adjacent the button hole 44 to facilitate easy passage of the button through the buttonhole. The neckband and cape may be made separately and joined by stitching 48 as shown in Figs. 1 and 5, or may be made in one piece (Figs. 8-11, not shown) in which case each element 50 is integral with a respective one of the members 30, 32. |
