The animated doll, puppet or animal has mounted inside it a pendulum device such as a weighted ball (29) acting as a counterweight. The ball is mounted on the end of a rod (22) which is mounted in a fixed swivel joint (23). The body (3) of the doll includes a housing containing the weighted ball (29). The head (1) contains a second housing containing a series of linkages for working the parts of the doll, e.g for rotating the eyes, opening the mouth, nodding the head etc.
