In a recording or replay device, particularly on a television camera, a closing device, for example in the form of a lid or a lid latch, is provided for a space in which the recording tape reel is accommodated. By moving the closing device from an open to a closed position or conversely and/or by means of a sensing device for the presence of a tape reel in the associated space of the device, a switching device can be operated by means of which either the release switch for the device or a bridging circuit for it is closed. By this means, an inserting and/or threading program control device and a self-holding device can be placed into operation, by means of which self-holding device the inserting and/or threading program control device is kept in operation until the end of its program run. The self-holding device itself is then switched off again by the program control device. <IMAGE>
